Celebrity Home: Reese Witherspoon

0

Today, we’re going to take a peek into the home of one of America’s favorite actresses: Reese Witherspoon.  A private weekend and holiday getaway, the property which is located in Ojai, is a historic “work of art” by California Architect Wallace Neff.  The property sits on seven acres that include a swimming pool, a barn, a horse paddock, and guest cottages (sounds like a little piece of heaven!).  The outdoor retreat is reminiscent of Reese’s time spent outdoors as a child and she wants to provide a similar environment for her two daughters; “It reminds me of growing up in Tennessee, where we spent all day outside,” she says. “I wanted my children to have that experience, to get muddy and hang out with the animals.”

Reese worked with friend and designer Kristen Buckingham to meld the hacienda’s natural elements of brick and stucco, Spanish tiles, exposed beams (one of my favorite architectural elements), and hand-forged light fixtures and hardware.  Reese wanted to maintain a traditional style with aspects of modern design.  Ikat pillows, Turkish rugs,  rustic accessories, European antiques, and a neutral and serene color palette.  This is a space that I would truly love to see for myself – it seems to touch upon all of the rustic and country elements that I adore!  To Reese, the space is just as much a retreat as it is a home. “It’s meditative and restorative,” she says. “As soon as I drive through the gate, I relax. The air is fresh, the phone isn’t ringing, you can’t access e-mail. Time slows down. Within an hour I’m lying on that couch taking a big fat nap. It’s like having a little bit of Tennessee in California.”  Sounds fabulous, take a look:

I find that my personal design style is always changing to some degree, but I would have to say that I am a Country girl at heart.  I love the comfort, coziness, and relaxed feel that it embodies.  I do love to add a bit of Modern elements into the mix to make it more current.

The Spanish style seating and the wrought iron accents are just lovely. That staircase is a work or art.
