Frame of Mind

Ever since I was little, I loved displaying pictures of friends and family in brightly colored frames.  This was perfect, because it seemed like the gift of the 90’s was the self-expressive picture frame.  I would collect all types of styles from chunky and bold to whimsical with cute sayings like “best friends forever” or “dream”.  Well, eventually I just didn’t have a place for the electric blue frame with diamonds and they were all shoved into a box.

Then, I discovered how using a little spray paint and creativity can transform just about anything.  Gather your old and unused wood, plastic, metal and bedazzled frames to create a frame collage.  By positioning different sizes, shapes, and textures of frames, you can create interesting and beautiful wall art in any room of your home.

Select a can of spray paint from your local craft or hardware store to accent a room of your choice (I choose a hammered brown finish to match the wrought iron accents in my living room).  You can even choose a few colors if you want to make a bolder statement.  Remove the glass and backings from the picture frames.  In a well-ventilated area, arrange the frames over newspaper.  Coat frames with spray paint until you have reached the desired color- this may take up to two coats.  Let them dry; fill with your favorite photos or even remove the glass from the frames to create interesting wall décor.  Display and enjoy!   Here are some fun examples to spark your creativity:

I find that my personal design style is always changing to some degree, but I would have to say that I am a Country girl at heart.  I love the comfort, coziness, and relaxed feel that it embodies.  I do love to add a bit of Modern elements into the mix to make it more current.
